On Schwarzwaldstrasse in Basel’s Wettstein quarter, rising from the 600-bay Roche garage, a daring experiment in cooperative densification turns an ordinary parking facility into a mixed-use miniature neighborhood. Instead of demolishing a perfectly sound structure, the project builds upon it, stacking 110 affordable apartments while the entire parking capacity remains in use. In doing so, it answers two of Basel’s most pressing urban agendas: the city’s newly adopted parking strategy, which relocates curbside spaces to edge-of-center garages so streets can be reclaimed for trees and cyclists, and the need to house a population forecast to climb from 180,000 to 220,000 within the next ten years. Though technically at the city’s periphery, the site is anything but isolated; it sits a short walk from Basel Badischer Bahnhof, flanks the motorway, and will soon gain a dedicated S-Bahn stop, knitting thedevelopment seamlessly into the regional transit web.


At the hinge between cars and homes stands Forum 24, a two-story public threshold that functions as both a lobby and a living room for the district. Here, commuters and residents alike filter through a light-filled hall edged by lounges, co-working tables, and a flexible gallery where local artists rotate their work. Above this threshold, the residential stack gradually changes character with height. The lowest terraces are carved into generous cluster flats that encourage student co-living; mid-levels host efficient one, two and three-room apartments whose deep loggias double as outdoor rooms; a band of duplexes arranged around the sky lobby gives young families a rare balance of privacy and community; and a crown of senior apartments allows long-time neighbors to downsize without leaving familiar streets. All of these homes rest on a 7.5-metre structural grid that transfers loads into the garage’s robust ramp cores, ensuring the parking facility stays fully operational.


The massing itself terraces from it’s peak at 85 meters down to 24 meters, satisfying Basel’s daylight regulations while carving sun-drenched south-facing gardens into the façade. These planted setbacks become a planted urban oasis that buffers highway and rail noise. Financially, the scheme is as elegant as its silhouette: parking fees—more than one million Swiss francs each year—cross-subsidize the cost of affordable rents above, 


demonstrating that adaptive reuse can weave social, environmental, and economic value into a single, resilient piece of city.

Charging modest coop rents (30% below market - 20% below coop) still generates surplus for faster amortisation or social funds. Dual revenue streams hedge against economic cycles. Parking decks can be repurposed if private car demand falls.Bottom line: Parking revenue covers 46% of annual financing &#38;amp; operating costs, enabling 50 – 75% rent reductions while the project remains cash neutral or better.

EchoLux is a warming hut pavilion that invites visitors to reimagine their surroundings through the magic of a camera obscura. This monolithic structure, standing starkly against the snowy Winnipeg landscape, serves as both a shelter and a lens.


Upon entering, the outside world is transformed. A small pinhole at the apex projects an inverted, ethereal image of the environment onto the interior walls. Familiar scenes—snow-laden trees, skaters gliding across the ice—are revealed anew, their forms softly illuminated and mirrored upside down.


Inside EchoLux, light and shadow interact to unveil hidden dimensions, inviting reflection and wonder. The pavilion’s name combines echo—a reflection—with lux, the Latin word for light, symbolizing how the space captures and reinterprets the landscape in an unexpected, transformative way.


Whether seeking warmth or contemplation, visitors are encouraged to pause, view their surroundings from a fresh perspective, and experience the winter landscape like never before.

This project, inspired by Iceland’s raw and untamed beauty, aims to create a haven for the skiing community. The design embraces the harsh yet stunning winter environment, providing a warm, welcoming refuge amidst the snow-clad wilderness.

The core concept behind the Iceland Ski Snow Cabin is to blend seamlessly with the pristine Icelandic landscape while offering a functional and cozy retreat for skiers. It draws from the minimalist and efficient use of space typical of Icelandic architecture, utilizing materials that reflect the surrounding environment.

Constructed primarily from aluminum, chosen for its durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, the cabin leverages Iceland’s abundant geothermal energy for its aluminum production, making it locally produced and ecologically sound. Aluminum’s reflective quality allows the cabin to blend into the snowy surroundings, ensuring it can withstand extreme weather with minimal maintenance.
The building’s layout is meticulously designed along an axis, with all rooms aligned in an enfilade arrangement. This design provides a logical flow through the space, enhancing continuity and connection within the cabin. 

A cozy resting space features a central fireplace that visually and functionally connects to the garage area. This fireplace creates a warm, inviting ambiance enjoyed from both spaces. The garage is seamlessly integrated, ensuring easy access while maintaining aesthetic harmony. To maintain tranquility, all technical and utility functions like storage and tuning stations are housed in a detached building, ensuring the main cabin remains a peaceful retreat.

The Iceland Ski Snow Cabin embodies the Icelandic winter spirit, offering skiers a sanctuary to relax, warm up, and recharge amidst their adventures. Its design, material choice, and spatial arrangement create an immersive experience celebrating Iceland’s majestic winter landscape.&#38;nbsp;

Normal science does not aim at novelties of fact or theory and, when successful, finds none. New and unsuspected phenomena are, however, repeatedly uncovered by scientific research, and radical new theories have again and again been invented by scientists. 

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; The practice of normal science depends on the ability, acquired from exemplars, to group objects and situations into similarity sets which are primitive in the sense that the grouping is done without an answer to the question, “Similar with respect to what?” One central aspect of any revolution is, then, that some of the similarity relations change. Objects that were grouped in the same set before are grouped in different ones afterward and vice versa. Think of the sun, moon, Mars, and earth before and after Copernicus; of free fall, pendular, and planetary motion before and after Galileo; or of salts, alloys, and a sulpuhur-iron filing mix before and after Dalton.

The construction area is located in the newly developed Shenzhen Leisure Belt Park. A horizontally arrangment of the required program would take up the majority of the park area and will thus become an obstacle in the continuity of the Leisure Belt Park. In cities like Shenzhen, it is essential to think carefully about how public space and the natural landscape can be integrated into the dense city fabric.


The vertical arrangement and thus small footprint allowed us to combine the whole program on the smaller of the two building plots. The park gets back the maximum usable area. On the north plot, the opera house is optimally integrated into the master plan of the surrounding building sites and thus generates a sustainable hub for the surrounding area.


The Hub becomes a clear node for the emerging neighborhood. Surrounding buildings include offices, stores, stage design, and apartments. Parking, delivery, metro station, and the open underground plaza are integrated into the basement levels. 


The access system is divided into passenger elevators and goods elevators. The elevators connect the venues to the single or double-decker lobbies according to their number of visitors. Here, another system of sublifts and open staircases leads to the foyer of the auditorium.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; The GTA archive for architecture is in search of a new space in Zurich, with the objective of adapting a former hat factory from the 1920s in the city center to accommodate its extensive collection. The transformation of this historic building is guided by the need to provide optimal conditions for archival storage while fostering an engaging and functional research environment.


A key element of the design is the addition of a tower structure, which will house the archive and provide an exhibition space on the top floor. This vertical extension allows for efficient spatial organization, ensuring that all storage regulations for the preservation of objects are met. At the same time, it frees up the existing building to function as a bright and open reading room, offering an inviting atmosphere for researchers and visitors.


The new tower will feature a visible brick structure, establishing a strong material connection with the historic facade. From within, the exposed brickwork reinforces the sense of stability and permanence, emphasizing the archival function of the space while celebrating the transition of objects from storage to workspace. The integration of old and new elements highlights the evolving nature of the building’s purpose, transforming it into a place where architectural heritage, preservation, and knowledge production converge.

The construction area is located in the newly developed Shenzhen Leisure Belt Park. A horizontally arrangment of the required program would take up the majority of the park area and will thus become an obstacle in the continuity of the Leisure Belt Park. In cities like Shenzhen, it is essential to think carefully about how public space and the natural landscape can be integrated into the dense city fabric.


The vertical arrangement and thus small footprint allowed us to combine the whole program on the smaller of the two building plots. The park gets back the maximum usable area. On the north plot, the opera house is optimally integrated into the master plan of the surrounding building sites and thus generates a sustainable hub for the surrounding area.


The Hub becomes a clear node for the emerging neighborhood. Surrounding buildings include offices, stores, stage design, and apartments. Parking, delivery, metro station, and the open underground plaza are integrated into the basement levels. 


The access system is divided into passenger elevators and goods elevators. The elevators connect the venues to the single or double-decker lobbies according to their number of visitors. Here, another system of sublifts and open staircases leads to the foyer of the auditorium.
